A defining achievement of the National Writers' Retreat was the completion and public launch of the youth-authored policy brief Our Planet is Not a Business: A Climate Action Call from Canada's Youth. The publication drew on the ideas and experiences of 118 youth from across Canada, who engaged in months of classroom inquiry, regional collaboration, and dialogue on environmental literacy and energy justice. Building on this collective work, by the end of May 2026, a seven-student writing delegation, supported by project researchers and facilitators, brought together the shared priorities and recommendations into a single national policy brief.

The retreat extended beyond collaborative writing by creating opportunities for students to bring their ideas into national conversations. Youth presented the policy brief at the UNESCO Associated Schools National Conference 2026 and shared their recommendations with representatives from Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) in Ottawa. Intended for educators, policymakers, researchers, and communities, the publication demonstrates how youth perspectives can help shape environmental education and inspire action toward a more sustainable future.
